ns3:description	"Description: The shape of this japanned tea tray is known as the 'Victoria'. The Victoria tray shape was invented by the artist George Wallis, who was born in Wolverhampton in 1811 and employed by the Wolverhampton japanners Ryton and Walton from 1827 to 1832. Wallis's tray shape, which became very fashionable, was named after Queen Victoria. This tray is decorated with an Oriental landscape made from scraps of mother-of-pearl, showing a lake surrounded by trees. At the water's edge is a pagoda, a sacred building in the form of a tower that is a common feature of Chinese, Japanese and Indian traditional architecture. This decoration is a typical example of European chinoiserie; rather than representing a particular place, the landscape includes a mixture of Chinese, Japanese and Indian elements, which combined to form British perceptions of the Orient. This tray has an ornate border of gold leaf flower garlands, which seems to be European in style. If you look more closely though, a gold snake can be seen amongst the flowers at each end of the border. This tray would have been used by a wealthy family, and may have been part of a set of similar pieces. Wavy edge oval tray with pearl chinoiserie decoration showing a landscape scene." ,
