It has a gold ito zogan, thread inlay, of the dead stalks of the gourds and surface decoration of the gourds themselves. It has only a nakago ana which has tagane ato and a ko-zuka hitsu ana. The gourd design is not one favoured by Samurai usually because of its lowly status. However the mythology surrounding Toyotomi Hideyoshi says that in 1575 when he was given his first big command he adopted the gourd as one of his emblems. The myth also tells us he added a gourd for every victory. The gourd design suggests that this tsuba was made during Hideyo-shis rule, which means it was most probably made pre-1600. The design links with Hideyoshi suggests a date during the Azuchi-Momoyama Period, 1557-1603. An iron decorated tsuba with dead stalks design." ,
